22/05/81: Prince Charles and Lady Di visit Tetbury, Gloucestershire

On Friday 22 May 1981 Price Charles and Lady Diana visited tetbury in Gloucestershire where the Prince opened a new operating theatre.

The visit was publicised a "meeting the neighbours" as the town is less than a mile from Highgrove House, a residence which prince Charles had recently acquired as the couple's home
Highgrove was initially occupied at weekends by Charles and Diana after their 1981 marriage, and their two children, Prince William and Prince Harry, spent much of their childhoods at the house.

03/05/81: Lady Diana flies to Aberdeen

On Sunday 3 May 1981 Lady Diana Spencer flew from London to Aberdeen to meet up with her finacé Prince Charles after his 5 week overseas tour. He returned to Britain on May 3, in a RAF VC10, landing at Lossiemouth in Scotland and drove to Balmoral where Lady Diana was waiting for him.

9/3/81: Charles & Diana's first official night out

On the vening of Monday 9th March 1981, Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, now engaged to be married, attended a charity concert at the Goldsmith's Hall in London.

The couple were greeted by hoards of paparazzi photographers eager to get pictures of Diana in her 'little black dress'.

3/3/81: Charles & Di's night at the opera

On Tuesday 3 March 1981 it was announced that the wedding between Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer would take place at St Paul's Cathedral on 29 July. That evening, the couple attended the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London for a performance of "L'Africane."

24/2/81: Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer wedding announcement

On Tuesday 24 February 1981 the engagement of Prince Charles to Lady Diana was made official in an announcement by Buckingham Palace. 

The Lord Chancellor Lord Maclean made the following statement :

"It is with greatest pleasure that the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh announce the betrothal of their beloved son the Prince of Wales to the Lady Diana Spencer, daughter of the Earl Spencer and the Honourable Mrs Shand Kydd."

Prince Charles quipped that he was "delighted and frankly amazed that Diana is prepared to take me on", quipped Prince Charles, 32, while Diana shyly stated, "with Prince Charles beside me I cannot go wrong." Diana was 19 years old at the time.
